Artist Statement
My artistic practice focuses on the combination of portraiture and abstraction. Utilizing abstraction in a way which distorts, erodes, and transforms the figure. The invented dichotomy of abstraction and portraiture has allowed for moments of deconstructive clashing in some parts of the painting, and a melding synthesis in others. This allows me to explore a spectrum of interactivity which is partly influenced by the unfolding intensity and gravity of the abstract elements. Which at times may become more visually intense than the figure itself, playing with the traditionally established relationship between background - foreground hierarchy.
